In the heart of the captivating rolling meadows, resided a boy named Shepherd. His existence was essentially untarnished, simple, and honest. His only responsibility was to care for his herd of sheep.

Their low murmuring and the murmuring of the gales through the solo tree on the hilltop were his constant companions. Day after day, guarding his responsibilities imbued in him a notion of quiet fulfillment.

However, there were the occasional moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would yearn for companionship. In one such instance because of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy devised a mischievous plan.

Narratives of wild beasts preying on sheep had long been circulating in the village. So, the boy opted to exploit this fear and played a prank on the villagers.

One day he ran into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf check here preying on my sheep!” The scared villagers sprinted up the hills to offer assistance but saw no wolf.

The boy laughed at the dilemma on their faces. This trick laughed for a couple of more days. But, one noon, a real wolf actually charge at the flock. The shepherd boy raced for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the town only to be met with a lesson on honesty and the results of dishonesty.

The tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the dangers of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once violated, is tough to earn back. It's a story as appropriate today as it was then.
